  • Use both 4ths as an inflection: natural 4th (C) in descent, raised 4th (C#) rising to the 5th, the tivra madhyam move of raga Purvi.
  • Keep the flat 2nd (Ab) and flat 6th (Eb) as slow, weighted notes; this is a sunset raga, and haste breaks the mood.
  • Anchor phrases on root, III and V over a drone; the half-step neighbors then function as ornaments around them.
  • Try it as a slow solo-guitar piece in G with open low strings ringing on the root; the eight-note density rewards space.

How to play G purvi raga on guitar

Open G is the root, so the third string can hang under everything you fret above it. Open D supplies the fifth and open B the major third, which means root, third and fifth are all available without fretting. Roots repeat at 3 on both E strings. Nothing above 7 belongs to the first box, so the shift is short from a low anchor.
