This Cookie Policy explains how StringScales (guitarscales) uses cookies and similar storage technologies, and how you can control them. It complements our Privacy Policy.

1. What we use

We keep the use of cookies and browser storage to a minimum. We group them into two categories: strictly necessary (always on, no consent needed) and analytics (off by default in the EU/EEA and UK until you accept).

2. Strictly necessary

These are required for the site to work and do not need consent. They never track you across other websites.

• Theme preference (theme cookie) - remembers your light/dark mode choice.
• Authentication (sb-* cookies, set by Supabase) - keep you securely signed in. Only present when you have an account and are logged in.
• App settings stored in your browser (local storage) - your metronome settings, recently used scales, and whether you have dismissed in-app tips. This data stays in your browser and is not sent anywhere for tracking.

3. Analytics (consent required)

• PostHog - we use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to understand how the app is used so we can improve it: which features are used, how people navigate, and whether something is broken. When you are signed in, this is linked to your account so we can measure things like returning usage.

In the EU, EEA, and UK, PostHog is switched off until you choose "Accept" in our cookie banner. If you select "Reject", PostHog is not loaded and sets no cookies. Outside those regions, PostHog is enabled by default; you can still opt out at any time (see section 5).

• Simple Analytics - we also use Simple Analytics for basic, aggregate visitor numbers. It is cookieless, collects no personal data, and does not track individuals, so under EU guidance it does not require consent and runs on every page.

4. Payments

When you start a subscription, you are redirected to our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, on their own website. Any cookies set there are governed by Lemon Squeezy's own policies.

5. Managing your choices

You can change your decision at any time using the "cookie settings" link in the site footer, which reopens the banner so you can accept or reject analytics. You can also clear cookies and site data through your browser settings.
