The minor bebop scale is natural minor with an added major 7th passing tone between the flat 7th and the root. The extra leading tone gives minor key runs the same smooth chromatic engine that the dominant bebop scale gives V chords. Eight notes, chord tones on downbeats, and an easy resolution onto the tonic minor.
it consists of these notes and degrees:
I
II
bIII
IV
V
bVI
bVII
VII
Same notes, different mode
G minor bebop uses the same notes as the scales below. Start from a different note and you get a new mode built on the very same note set.
How to play G minor bebop on guitar
Open G doubles as the root while open D covers the fifth, so you can pin a drone on two strings and play over it. Open A joins as the second, which means three strings ring in key while the fretting hand stays busy elsewhere. Outer strings both root at fret 3. D spanish heptatonic lays over the identical frets, seven semitones up, so the fingering pays off twice.
