Open G is the tonic, the open D a perfect fifth from it and the open B a major third, so a three-string drone needs no fretting at all. Roots repeat at fret 3 on both E strings, 10 on the A and 5 on the D. Both E strings ring a major sixth up. Position one hands over at fret 7, which means the 3rd-fret box covers plenty before any shift.
