  • A whole tone scale with a dark doorstep: enter on b2 (Gb), then glide in whole steps from III to bVII (Eb).
  • Use it over a F7b9#5 vamp; the b2 (Gb) is the b9, the b6 (Db) the #5 (C#), and the whole tone upper half supplies the rest.

How to play F mystery #1 on guitar

Fret 1 holds the root on both the low E and the high E strings, so this key barely leaves the nut. A capo at fret 1 turns it all into E fingering, which lets open strings back into the picture.
