  • Major pentatonic with its 6th pushed to b6 (C): sunny lines that suddenly sigh; place the b6 (C) to V fall at phrase ends.
  • Over a plain major triad on E, the b6 (C) borrows harmonic-major darkness without leaving pentatonic fingering.
  • Keep the b6 (C) off strong beats under a major chord... as a passing shadow it is striking, sustained it argues with the 6th-less chord.
  • Pair phrases: one from the normal major pentatonic, the answer from this scale; the single changed note becomes the story.

How to play E flat six pentatonic on guitar

Both E strings are open roots and the open B is the fifth, so box one sits at 0 with 3 of its 6 strings needing no fingers. Fretted roots wait at 2 on the D, 5 on the B, 7 on the A and 9 on the G, giving you a root on every string. Position work shifts at fret 4. Barre the E shape at 12 for the octave of those open roots.
