The bebop scale (the dominant bebop scale) is mixolydian plus a chromatic passing tone between the flat 7th and the root, giving eight notes. The added note makes chord tones land on downbeats when you run eighth notes, which is the whole trick of bebop language. It is the default over dominant 7th chords in swing; start on a chord tone and let the passing tone do the work.
it consists of these notes and degrees:
I
II
III
IV
V
VI
bVII
VII
Same notes, different mode
Eb bebop uses the same notes as the scales below. Start from a different note and you get a new mode built on the very same note set.
How to play E♭ bebop on guitar
Fret 1 on the D string carries the root closest to the nut, so first-position work is on the table even though the lowest root sits at fret 11. Open D and open G both belong to the scale, giving you the major seventh and the major third without fretting. A-shape barre lands at fret 6 and the E-shape at fret 11, which means one shift covers both. Box one closes at fret 15.
