The purvi raga scale is the frame of raga Purvi from Hindustani classical music, here an eight note set: root, flat 2nd, major 3rd, both the natural and raised 4th, 5th, flat 6th, major 7th. The two 4ths capture the raga's characteristic tivra madhyam inflection. Its solemn, twilight character is traditionally associated with sunset performance.
it consists of these notes and degrees:
I
bII
III

How to play B purvi raga on guitar
Open B is the root, so the second string doubles as a pedal while you fret above it. Both outer strings sound the fourth and open G the minor sixth, which means four strings ring in key without a finger down. A capo at fret 2 hands you A fingering. Roots also sit at 7 on both E strings and 4 on the G. Nothing in the first shape passes 11, so one hand position carries it from fret 7 up.
