The minor bebop scale is natural minor with an added major 7th passing tone between the flat 7th and the root. The extra leading tone gives minor key runs the same smooth chromatic engine that the dominant bebop scale gives V chords. Eight notes, chord tones on downbeats, and an easy resolution onto the tonic minor.
it consists of these notes and degrees:
I
II
bIII
IV
V
bVI
bVII
VII
Same notes, different mode
B minor bebop uses the same notes as the scales below. Start from a different note and you get a new mode built on the very same note set.
How to play B minor bebop on guitar
Open B is a root you never have to fret, and no other open string sits outside the key, so anything you strum stays inside it. Open D lands on the minor third and open G on the minor sixth, which lets you build voicings around unfretted notes. Capo at fret 2 turns this into A fingerings. Roots on the outer strings at fret 7 pair with the E-shape barre there, so a full grip sits under the scale.
