The kafi raga scale is the frame of raga Kafi from Hindustani music, catalogued here as an eight note set with both 3rds and both 7ths: root, flat and major 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, flat and major 7th. The paired inflections mirror how the raga bends between dorian-like rest and brighter ornament. Its overall mood is gentle and romantic rather than austere.
it consists of these notes and degrees:

How to play B kafi raga on guitar
Open B gives you the tonic, both E strings a perfect fourth above it and the open A a minor seventh, so five strings can ring under whatever you play higher up. Fretted roots sit at 7 on the E strings, 2 on the A and 9 on the D. Open D fills in the minor third. Barre shapes fall at 2 and 7, and the root box ends at fret 11, which means one hand position covers most of what you need low down.
