  • Start phrases with the augmented 2nd right at the bottom: root to #2 (C#) to III is the scale's calling card.
  • Treat it as lydian dominant with a raised 2nd: over a Bb13#11 chord, everything lands.
  • The #4 (E) resolves up to V while bVII (Ab) resolves down to VI; work both tendencies into one line for maximum color.
  • Its odd symmetry (it is a mode of a rotation of half-whole diminished) means diminished licks can be recycled inside it.

How to play B♭ hungarian major on guitar

Four open strings fit here, both E strings at the augmented fourth, open D at the major third and open G at the sixth, so open notes are on hand even without a drone that holds. A-shape barre sits at fret 1, which lets a full grip happen almost at the nut. Lowest root is fret 6 on the low E. Chord #ii° is C#dim, and at fret 10 the first shape retires.
